Well, it’s been a heck of a year for us all and there is certainly an air of ‘lets pull down the hatches and enjoy ourselves’. Why not indeed? We have had a change in the Government’s leadership following the Brexit result, we waited with bated breath to see whether it would be Hillary or Donald in the USA, meanwhile the world markets have been from ‘pillar to post’. This has undoubtedly affected the pace of the UK property market, but so far it is showing very few signs of any long term damage. As we reflect and consider 2017, we would urge anybody thinking of selling to allow their agents to make it a reality. It is, of course, very important to have a valuation carried out to accurately establish what selling price you are likely to receive, but to do nothing more until you find a house, can be counter-productive. In fact, this is one of the major causes for the lack in UK housing stock, which is currently around 50% less than a decade ago. We would like to see more people going to the market when they have made the decision to move, rather than when they have found a house to buy. It will generate increased fluidity hence more choice for everyone. With high street lenders continuing to offer some very competitive fixed rate mortgages there is every reason to get involved! Happy house hunting in 2017.
